Cuervo Y Sobrinos

Founder: In 1882 Armando Rio y Cuervo and his brothers assumed the management of a jewelry business in Havana, Cuba, that was established by their uncle Ramón. This is the origin of the name Cuervo y Sobrinos (Cuervo and nephews).

Country: Switzerland

History: Cuervo y Sobrinos’ original jewelry shop was dubbed “La Casa” and located on Quinta Avenida, a famous arterial street in Havana. They quickly became the most important jewelers in the city and gained international notoriety. Today Cuervo creates their timepieces in a magnificent nineteenth-century Swiss villa known as the Capolago house. Overlooking the shores of Lake Lugano—a gorgeous glacial lake at the Swiss-Italian border—the Capolago house serves as their manufacturing, assembly, marketing, and sales headquarters. This fascinating building has become known as “La Casa” in honor of the original shop in Cuba. Cuervo’s main collections include Esplendidos, Prominente, Torpedo, and Historiador. They also produce fine pens and jewelry.

Sponsorships: Cuervo y Sobrinos Cup car race; Campagne e Cascine vintage car race; Milan–San Remo Cup car race.

Ambassadors: Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, Clark Gable, Ernest Hemingway, and Pablo Neruda are among the many famous clients of the Cuervo y Sobrinos boutique. Recipients of their Latino International award include Andy Garcia, Miguel Bosé, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Antonio Banderas.
