Founder: Louis-Francois Cartier took over a jewelry workshop in 1847 and established it as his business.
Country: Paris, France
History: The company was created in 1847 and by 1888 the first ladies watch with a bracelet was created. Cartier became the supplier of jewelry and watches to King Edward VII and to King Carlos I of Portugal in 1904 and 1905, respectively. The first Tonneau wristwatch was created in 1906. Nicholas II of Russia also became an avid customer of Cartier in 1907. The folding buckle for wristwatches was patented in 1909. In 1912, the first baguette cut diamonds were created and used. Princess Elizabeth received one of the smallest wristwatches in the world made by Cartier in 1938. In 1972, Cartier's ownership was taken over by investors. The famous Pasha De Cartier watch models were launched into distribution in 1985 and one year later the Tank Francaise models were launched. The company continued to make strides in the jewelery business as well as the watchmaking business for the next 40 years and continues to do so to this day.
