Famed Swiss manufacture Girard Perregaux has roots dating
back to the eighteenth century. Many of their precision timepieces have
won prestigious awards, and they hold the historical distinction of
being perhaps the first watchmakers to produce men’s timepieces
specifically designed to be worn upon the wrist.
Olimpico special-edition timepieces by Girard Perregaux commemorate the Olympics, but in a quiet and restrained fashion.
This particular edition from 1996
celebrates the Atlanta Summer Olympics and was the last time Girard
Perregaux produced an Olimpico, which makes this watch all the more
difficult to obtain.
The off-white patterned dial showcases
eye-catching indexes as well as chronograph functions that include a
center seconds hand, a 12-hour counter at 6, and a 30-minute counter at
9.
In addition, there is a small seconds
at 3, a date window nestled between 4 and 5, and a tachymeter scale
running along the outer edge. We find the blue hands in the subdials
quite dashing.
Vintage stylings abound and you will
surely enjoy the comfortable stainless steel case that measures 40 mm in
diameter, 12.7 mm in height, and rests upon a stainless steel bracelet
with a stainless steel double folding deployant clasp. Additional
features include a closed case back, a scratch-resistant sapphire
crystal, and a 100 m / 10 atm water resistance.
As a self-winding automatic watch, the
self-winding automatic manufacture Girard Perregaux 3170 caliber beats
at 28,800 vph and delivers a 42-to-46-hour power reserve.
A handsome wine of distinction, this
Laureato Olimpico Chronograph by Girard Perregaux will surely make a
fabulous addition to your collection.
